Forensic analyzes carried out by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) allowed the identification of six of the 12 victims linked to the remains located at kilometer 14, Santa Lucía Los Ocotes sector, zone 25 of Guatemala City, a case marked by the advanced state of decomposition of the bodies and the recovery of scattered bone remains, as reported this Monday, May 18.
The identification process required different scientific methodologies, including DNA analysis, anthropological studies, comparison of fingerprints and evaluation of individualizing characteristics, due to the conditions in which the remains were found.
According to the final report of the Human Necro-ID area, the cases entered Inacif between December 18 and 21, 2025. Of the 12 documented records, six people were identified and another six remain unrecognized because there is no match in the Genetic Bank or in the ante-mortem and post-mortem databases.
Among the findings that most caught the attention of the researchers was a left rib located among the bones analyzed. Anthropological studies determined that the bone coincided with the remains of Cristopher Andrés Ruano García, 19 years old, whose body parts had been sent to Inacif in 2022.
It was reported that the result established a direct connection between remains found three years apart and showed the complexity of the forensic work carried out in the case.
Authorities indicated that several identifications were possible only after subjecting the remains to specialized testing, due to deterioration caused by time and decomposition conditions.
Among the identified victims are Álvaro Ricardo Coronado, 26 years old; Daniel Caal Tun, 22; Gerson Lorenzo Pórix Pérez, 37; José Fernando Pérez Taleón, 25, and Hilary Rashell Vielman Diéguez, 20, who died from asphyxiation due to strangulation. In the case of Gerson Eduardo Chután Nájera, 19, the cause of death remains under study.
