The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this May 18 that he decided to postpone an attack against Iran scheduled for next Tuesday.

This action would have put an end to the ceasefire between the US and Iranvalid since last April.

“Based on my respect for the aforementioned leaders, I have instructed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Daniel Caine, and the United States Armed Forces so that we do NOT carry out the scheduled attack on Iran tomorrow“Trump wrote on his social networks.

According to the president, his Arab allies asked him postpone the attack because the ongoing negotiations “are serious.”

Despite announcing a ceasefire, Trump threatened on May 17 to resume the offensive against Iran, also stating that the country “time is running out”.

The US president’s statements come while Washington and Tehran maintain negotiations to end the conflict that began on February 28while the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.
