Quetzaltenango activated municipal yellow alert since May 21 due to the expectation generated by the second leg final of Clausura 2026 between Xelajú MC and Municipal. The match will be played this Saturday, May 23 at 8 p.m. at the Mario Camposeco Stadium and will mobilize thousands of fans in the Quetzaltecan city.

Municipal authorities confirmed that the measure seeks to guarantee the safety of players, fans and neighbors during one of the most important sports days of the year. The Municipality of Quetzaltenango assured that the operation will allow for addressing any emergency or incident that may arise before, during and after the meeting, reported Rony Álvarez of Risk Management of the Municipality of Quetzaltenango.

The security device will include more than 300 agents of the National Civil Police distributed at the entrances to the stadium and surrounding sectors. In addition, elements of the reserve core of the Western district, regional police stations and special forces will participate, along with a motorized group in charge of guarding the Municipal team.

The Volunteer Firefighters will also reinforce emergency coverage with at least 20 elements assigned to the event, including specialized personnel on the field. The display exceeds the usual number used in national finals and reflects the magnitude that the definition of the championship in Quetzaltenango will have.

The authorities confirmed that the streets near the Mario Camposeco Stadium will remain closed to vehicular traffic during the final between Xelajú MC and Municipal. The closure will cover from 12th Avenue to 14th Avenue A, including sectors of Rodolfo Robles Street and 4th Street in Zone 3 to reinforce the security perimeter.

The Municipality of Quetzaltenango will also deploy at least 80 people to support vehicle control and coordinate mobility in different parts of the city. In addition, the installation of giant screens is planned so that fans who cannot enter the stadium can follow the game.

The authorities anticipated that, in the event of a victory for Xelajú, thousands of fans could gather at Parque Centroamérica to celebrate the championship. “A victory is expected for the Xelajú team and therefore a celebration in Parque Centroamérica,” they pointed out, confirming the activation of a special institutional response and security plan.
