This Friday, May 22, the Municipal Transit Police (PMT) reported a death threat against one of its agents, after a driver reacted violently when he was stopped for driving in the wrong direction.

The incident occurred on 10th street in the capital’s zone 9, on La Castellana Avenue, around 2 p.m., according to details from the authorities.

The attack was reported to the National Civil Police (PNC), who later managed to capture the aggressor.

The attacked traffic officer stopped the driver, who was allegedly traveling with his family, in the opposite direction. Given the situation, the man threatened to kill the agent.

The now detained man got out of the car with a gun in his hand, pushed him and threw blows with the weapon against the agent, who was transferred to Social Security for a medical evaluation for having blows to the neck.

The detainee, according to PNC reports, was identified as Mario Idabel Castillo Yanes, 57 years old.

The PNC report also details that the aggressor fled after the incident, but was detained by the PNC in the vicinity of El Trébol.

The event was recorded on cameras and allowed the PMT to alert the police officers who managed to locate the vehicle, and subsequently arrest the subject.

“We are going with all legal support to the traffic agent, he is a public servant who prevents, but the grotesqueness of the violent driver shows that he is a risk for users, exposing his family by going against the road, but also misusing a gun is a risk for everyone,” said Amilcar Montejo, director of Social Communication at Emetra.

The authorities maintain the vehicle and the firearm used in the attack in their possession. It is unknown what the detainee does, but authorities suspect that he may be a security agent.
