After several days of legal litigation, the Municipality of Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez, and representatives of the Xochi Corridor project reached an agreement.

This Monday, June 8, both parties met in the afternoon in a session called by the Council, after the commotion caused by the non-extension of the license for the project in the Mazatenango section.

The banners with the legend “cancelled work” warned about the commune’s decision, which is why the business sector has spoken out to request legal certainty for the investment.

After the meeting, at a press conference, both parties stated that they had reached the necessary agreements.

Between The agreements state that the pending work will be carried out on the private road, in the Mazatenango section. Furthermore, the legal representative promised to ratify the sworn statement requested by the mayor of Mazatenango.

Carlos Estuardo Villagrán López, mayor of Mazatenango, indicated that they reached a conciliation and that the commune fully expressed the issue of security, so there is a commitment on the part of the company which was evaluated point by point to reach an understanding. According to the mayor, everything agreed was in writing.

He stated that Corredor Xochi gave the municipality all the technical and professional answers after talking for several minutes.

The mayor assured that they are proceeding to withdraw the Municipal Police officers who were in the area.

The inauguration of the private highway Xochi, in Suchitepéquez and Retalhuleu, is scheduled for Sunday, June 14.

The highway extends from kilometer 142.5, in San Antonio, Suchitepéquez, to kilometer 173, in San Andrés Villa Seca, Retalhuleu, and is planned to reduce congestion on the route to the southwest, towards the Irtra parks and the Pacific beaches.

Xochi will be an alternate route and only drivers who pay tolls will be able to circulate; Those who do not do so must travel through the CA-2 highway.
