This June 9, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico reported that Tropical Storm Boris made landfall this morning between Guerrero and Oaxaca, and Heavy rains are expected in the south and west of the country.
According to an SMN newsletter, Boris is 25 kilometers east-northeast of Punta Maldonado and 170 kilometers east-southeast of Acapulco.
Boris also presents maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per houras well as gusts of 85 km/h and a movement to the north-northwest of 9 km/h.
“Due to the wide cloud bands in the system, very heavy rains are expected in the following hours (50 to 75 millimeters). [mm]) in Jalisco (south), Colima, Michoacán (coast), Guerrero (southeast and east) and Oaxaca (west), and forts (25 to 50 mm) in Puebla (southwest), State of Mexico (west and southwest), Mexico City and Morelos“said the SMN.
The SMN also stated that the tropical storm will generate wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/h on the coasts of Guerrero and Oaxaca, and 40 to 60 km/h on the coasts of Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán.
At the same time, the authorities warned of waves of two to three meters on the coasts of Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Jalisco and Colima.
Another warning from the authorities is that heavy rains could generate landslides, increase in the levels of rivers and streams, as well as floods.
For this reason, the Mexican authorities urged the population to stay informed through official channels and follow the recommendations of Civil Protection.
