South Korea defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 at the Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, at the close of the first day of Group A of the 2026 World Cup.
In addition to the result, the match left two actions that generated a wide impact among fans: Hwang In-beom’s goal that completed the South Korean comeback and Czech Pavel Šulc’s torn shirt during a play in the match.
The Czech Republic took the lead with a goal from Ladislav Krejčí, but South Korea reacted and managed to turn the score around.
Hwang In-beom was the protagonist of the decisive goal. After receiving a pass from Lee Kang-in, he controlled the ball inside the area, masterfully surpassed his rivals and scored to establish the final 2-1. The play was one of the most outstanding of the match.
Another image of the match featured Czech midfielder Pavel Šulc. During an action during the match, the player suffered a shirt pull by South Korean defender Lee Han-beom.
Šulc’s shirt tore in the back, although the footballer continued playing for a few seconds without realizing what had happened.
Afterwards, the referee stopped the match to allow the uniform change.
Images of both actions circulated widely on digital platforms in the hours after the meeting.
With the victory, South Korea added its first three points and placed itself alongside Mexico at the top of Group A, after Mexico’s 2-0 victory over South Africa in the opening match.
