Armed attack in La Verbena leaves one dead and a teenager injured

A man died and a 13-year-old teenager was injured during an armed attack that occurred this Friday, June 19, in the La Verbena cemetery, located in the La Verbena neighborhood, zone 7 of the capital, the Municipal Firefighters reported.

The incident was reported through multiple calls made by residents of the sector to the 123 emergency line, who alerted about several firearm detonations in the area.

After receiving the notices, emergency units were mobilized to 11th Avenue and 14th Street in the La Verbena neighborhood. Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics located two people with injuries caused by a firearm projectile inside the cemetery.

The first victim was a 13-year-old teenager, who had a wound to the neck. The first responders provided him with pre-hospital care, stabilized him and later transferred him to the Roosevelt Hospital emergency room to receive specialized medical care.

Mario Rodolfo Solórzano Escobar, 33 years old, was located in the same place. During the primary evaluation, paramedics determined that he had a gunshot wound to the skull.

Due to the severity of the injury, lifeguards confirmed that he no longer had vital signs at the time of being evaluated, so he died at the scene.

The incident generated the mobilization of rescue forces and the corresponding authorities, who cordoned off the scene to protect possible evidence related to the attack.

The investigation procedures were left to the competent authorities, who must establish the circumstances in which the armed event occurred and determine the causes that gave rise to it.

It is unknown if the victims participated in a funeral or if they were just visiting the cemetery.
