Rainy season 2026 in Guatemala leaves nine dead and more than 9 thousand affected

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) shared this Thursday, June 25, the consolidated damage during the 2026 rainy season.

According to the data, 9,662 people have been affected and 117 have been sheltered. In addition, 3,297 have been evacuated and three have been injured.

La Conred reported that nine people have died due to incidents during the 2026 rainy season and seven have needed hospitalization.

Regarding damage to infrastructure, the report shows 225 homes with slight damage, 1,726 with moderate damage, 94 with severe damage and 173 at risk.

He also reported that, due to the rainfall, six bridges and 15 schools have reported damage.

According to the Insivumeh forecast for June 25, conditions are favorable for the formation of severe local storms, with abundant rain, strong wind and possible hail.

The institution warned that the expected rains could cause river flooding, floods, mass movements or lahars in the volcanic chain.
