When will the Deer Moon be and the dates of the Moon phases

The Earth’s natural satellite captivates the attention of millions of astronomy fans around the world for its unique brightness and for beautifying the sky every night with its different phases.

A few days before the end of June, the so-called Strawberry Moon will illuminate the sky on Monday the 29th of that month. Later, in July, the Deer Moon will arrive, names that were assigned by native peoples of America, Europe and other regions who used these names to measure the passage of time.

The name Deer Moon arose after the Algonquian tribes observed that during this month male deer begin to grow new antlers.

“These antlers sprout from their foreheads covered with soft and velvety skin, in preparation for autumn and the mating season,” highlighted the Guatemalan astronomer Edgar Castro about the origin of this name.

The Deer Moon of 2026 will arrive on July 29, when the natural satellite is closest to Earth, according to NASA.

This Moon is also known as the Thunder Moon, the Molting Moon, the Ripe Corn Moon, the Raspberry Moon and the Salmon Moon, according to different cultures that used these names to organize their calendars.

After the full Moon on June 29, the satellite will begin a new cycle and reach the last quarter phase on July 7.

According to media such as Infobae, at the beginning of the week of the last quarter the Moon will be about 403,993 kilometers from the Earth. At the end of this phase it will be approximately 401,893 kilometers away.
