The National Secretariat of Science and Technology (Senacyt) officially opened the call for Guatemalans to apply for scientific and technological scholarships intended to finance studies of specialization, master’s and doctorate in strategic areas for the development of the country.
The program, known as FormaCTioffers financial support of up to Q200 thousand per yearwith the purpose of strengthening the training of professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
What do Senacyt scholarships cover?
Funding can be used to cover various academic and personal expenses related to studies, including:
- Registration and monthly payments
- Books and laboratory materials
- Work equipment and computer equipment
- Transfers for studies abroad
- Printing of the final work
- Maintenanceaccording to socioeconomic evaluation
The duration of support will depend on the academic level:
- Until 12 months for specializations
- Until 24 months for master’s degrees
- Until 48 months for doctorates
Priority areas to apply
The call prioritizes careers and programs focused on sectors considered key for Guatemala.
health sciences
Includes areas such as food safety, nutrition, geriatrics, prosthesis and early childhood development.
Technology and innovation
The scholarships promote studys in artificial intelligence, data analysis, digital transformation, robotics and cybersecurity.
Nature care
Programs related to biotechnology, sustainable agriculture, waste management and climate change.
Energy
Includes specialties in renewable energies, clean technologies and energy efficiency.
What universities are accepted?
One of the aspects that may generate the most doubts among applicants is whether there is a specific list of universities authorized to apply to the program.
According to the rules of the call, Senacyt does not publish an official list of accepted universities. However, it does establish that the proposals must correspond to studies in accredited and recognized institutionsunder the STEM model, both in Guatemala and abroad.
This means that applicants are free to choose the university where they wish to pursue their postgraduate studies, as long as it meets the corresponding academic and accreditation standards.
In the case of international universities, the applicant must present a official proof of acceptancein addition to documentation that demonstrates the validity and recognition of the study center.
The recommendation for those interested in applying is to verify directly with the chosen university and check on the Senacyt platform if the academic program complies with the fund’s guidelines.
Requirements to apply
Among the general requirements are:
- Be registered and updated in the National Directory of Researchers (DNI)
- Complete official forms
- Submit a current copy of the DPI
- Have an official acceptance letter
- Have proof of active membership, when applicable
Additionally, it is requested:
- Updated resume
- Letter of interest and social commitment
- Signed and sealed study plan
- Academic certification with a minimum average of 75 points
- Certification of relative position within your promotion
- Valid passport for studies outside the country
- Minimum own contribution 10% of the total budget
Deadline to apply for a scholarship
The call will be open from June 22 to July 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. in Guatemalaso interested parties must complete their application before that date.
