Next Sunday, April 13, the beginning of Holy Week will be commemorated with the celebration of the Palm Sunday.
With palms and fervor, the processions of the Palm Sunday mark the beginning of Holy Weekwhen recalling the triumphant entry of Jesus in Jerusalem and announce the days that commemorate his passion, death and resurrection.
According to the Gospel, as he approached the city for Easter, Jesus sent two disciples to look for a donkey and his young, telling them that, if someone asked, they replied: “The Lord needs them.”
They obeyed and Jesus mounted the chick, fulfilling the prophecy of Zacarías: “Behold, your king comes to you, meek and sitting on an ass, on a chick, son of beast of load.”
The crowd received it with enthusiasm, extending mantles and branches along the way and proclaiming: “Hosanna to the son of David! Blessed the one who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Remembering this triumphal entry, the streets of Antigua Guatemala will be filled with palms, accompanying the processional courtship of Jesús Nazareno of “La Review”, next to the Virgen de Dolores, who for a year will travel the streets of the colonial city.

The processional courtship of Jesús Nazareno de la Review, of the Temple of La Merced, will begin its tour at 8.30 am on Sunday, April 13.
The procession will travel the main streets of the city and return to the temple between 12 and 1.30 hours on Holy Monday.

Free municipal parking lots and buses
The Commune of Antigua Guatemala has enabled a series of municipal parking lots for the faithful who decide to attend processional procession on Sunday, April 13, from 5 am to 2 hours on Monday, April 14.

- Rancho Nimajay (exclusive for older adults, pregnant women and people with disabilities)

In addition, three free bus service routes will be enabled, from 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 13 to 2 hours from Monday, April 14.
Recommendations to attend procession
- Plan your route in advance. See the official tour and choose a strategic point to observe the courtship.
- Wear comfortable clothes and footwear. Avoid tight garments and choose suitable shoes for walking.
- Hydrace and wear snacks. Processions last hours; Take water and light food, especially if you go with children.
- Protect yourself in the weather. Use sunscreen, hat or waterproof, depending on the forecast.
- Take care of your belongings. Take only what is necessary and keep alert in busy areas.
