Who is the new Minister of the Maga, María Fernanda Rivera?

María Fernanda Rivera has a trajectory in the public, private and academic sector. Now assumes as Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food.

María Fernanda Rivera Dávila was sworn this May 9 as New Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (Maga).

Its profile combines technical, academic, business and community experience in agricultural and rural development issues.

Is agronomist with a degree in Agricultural Sciences of the Earth University (Costa Rica) And it has the closed pensum of a Master in Applied Economics and Business Administration by Texas A&M University and the Universidad del Valle.

Rivera is not new in the magician:

  • In 2013was International Trade Expert.
  • Between 2014 and 2015he worked as Director of Cooperation, Projects and Trusts.
  • In 2021was Technical Advisor of the Vice Ministry of Rural Economic Development (Vider).

Has worked in the private sector leading projects of production, sensory analysis and cocoa and chocolate transformation. Is Consultant certified by the Technical Institute for Training and Productivity (Intecap) And he has been in charge of initiatives of Economic integration.

He has also held positions in business chambers, such as Food and drinks and that of Cocoa producers from the southern coast. Academicly, he has taught classes in the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC) and in the Government School.

In addition, he has participated in community activities such as Technique in Medical Emergencies and Fire in the voluntary fire bodyas well as in initiatives of Guatemalan cocoa quality improvement.

His new challenge: Lead the country’s agricultural policy amid climatic, economic and social challenges.

Before assuming the position, Rivera Dávila had to pay Q245 thousand for 44 sanctions imposed by the Comptroller General of Accountsamount that canceled to obtain his settlement and be sworn as Minister this May 9.
