This is how Good Friday was experienced in Guatemala this 2026

This Good Friday, April 3, the images of Nazarenes and Buried They walk the streets of Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez.

Among incense smoke and on sawdust carpets, the devout bearers carry the images on their shoulders, many of which will enter the temples until the early morning of this April 4th.

The processions are a tradition during Holy Week, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in 2008.

It was also recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, in Paris, in 2022.
