Sergio Chumil returned to the scene in international cycling with his participation in O Gran Camiño 2026, a competition that brings together high-level runners in Spain. The Guatemalan competes with the Burgos-Burpellet-BH team in a test that takes place from April 14 to 18 and covers different parts of Galicia.
The Guatemalan cyclist shows progression in O Gran Camiño 2026, after improving his performance between the first and second stages. On the initial day, a 15-kilometer individual time trial in A Coruña, the Guatemalan cyclist placed 80th, in a start marked by the challenge against the stopwatch.
The panorama changed in the second stage, held this Wednesday, April 15 between Vilalba and Barreiros, with a route of 148.6 kilometers. Chumil managed to finish in 21st place, entering with the same time as the winner, the Spanish Carlos Canal, who registered 3:13:25.
The Guatemalan crossed the finish line alongside the main group, which allowed him to close the gap and climb positions in the classification, on a day that favored the runners who remained in the peloton.
The stage was won by Canal, followed by Mats Wenzel and Eric Fagúndez, all with the same time, in a compact finish on the Galician coast. Chumil was part of that large group that arrived without differences.
After this result, the cyclist Sergio Chumil shows a better adaptation to the race pace, after a more discreet start in the time trial. O Gran Camiño 2026 will continue with 3 more demanding stages, including mountain routes and high finishes, where Chumil will seek to maintain its progression in a competition in which it already knows what it means to win.
