Uncle and nephew are arrested for alleged scams that amount to up to Q75 thousand in parcels

Investigators from the National Division against the Criminal Development of Gangs, in operations in the villages of San Felipe de Jesús and San Pedro Las Huertas, Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, carried out arrest warrants.

The National Civil Police (PNC) reported this Wednesday, April 15, that the detainees are José “N”, 57 years old, and Erick “N”, 34 (uncle and nephew).

He stated that both are accused of their own fraud and have been wanted since August 15, 2025 by a court in Jutiapa.

The PNC explained that investigators followed up on complaints from citizens who were scammed through different social media platforms.

He indicated that those captured allegedly contacted people through text messages or calls and made them believe that relatives in the United States had sent packages or parcels in their name.

According to the investigation, the detainees allegedly stated that these parcels were held in customs and that, in order to collect them, the victims had to deposit money into the accounts of third parties, in amounts ranging between Q5 thousand and Q20 thousand.

Preliminarily, the PNC has established that in some cases they managed to defraud victims with sums of up to Q75 thousand. The investigation continues.
