The Guatemalan cyclist Sergio Chumil once again stood out in the O Gran Camiño 2026 with an outstanding performance in the third stage held this Thursday between Carballo and Padrón. The Burgos Burpellet BH team rider finished within the Top 20, 44 seconds behind the winner of the day, the Spanish Iván Romeo of the Movistar Team, becoming the best Latin American of the stage and the most outstanding of his team on the day.
The stage had a demanding route that included two mountain passes and a flat finish in Padrón, where Romeo won with authority after a final sprint preceded by three intermediate sprints. Chumil managed to join the chasing pack of 29 cyclists, where he set the pace in several sections of the route and demonstrated the level that has characterized him in recent competitions on the international circuit.
With this result, The Guatemalan climbed eight positions in the general classification and is now 2 minutes and 25 seconds behind the new leader Alessandro Pinarello of the NSN Cycling Team. who finished second in the stage, 15 seconds behind Romeo. Abel Balderstone from Caja Rural completed the podium of the day also 15 seconds behind the winner.
Chumil continues to grow in Europe
Chumil’s performance in this third stage reinforces his good moment in the competition. The Guatemalan has proven to be one of the Latin American leaders in the Spanish event, standing out in the most demanding sections of a stage that combined the three elements that define Galicia: interior, mountains and coast between Carballo and Padrón.
