The Third Chamber of the Court of Appeals for Labor and Social Security confirmed a resolution favorable to the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) that annuls the preventions and summons derived from a collective conflict promoted by an ad hoc committee of the Coalition of Workers of the Ministry of Education of Guatemala, said ministry reported this Tuesday, April 21.
In a statement, the Mineduc points out that, “With this decision, the Mineduc is no longer located.”
According to the resolution, the conflict could not continue because the direct route had not been exhausted. In addition, the negotiation of the collective agreement remains ongoing with the Guatemalan Education Workers Union (STEG), which is led by Joviel Acevedo.
The Chamber also determined that the ad hoc committee lacked active standing to promote the process, which influenced the judicial decision.
According to official information, the members of that committee had links with the STEG leadership, which would show the existence of parallel management within the same conflict.
The authorities of the Ministry of Education indicated that the resolution represents progress in the recovery of institutional governance and in the defense of the educational system. The Mineduc affirmed that it will continue to act in accordance with the law to guarantee the right to education.
