Military veterans surround Congress, block exits and clash with PNC agents

Dozens of military veterans stationed in front of one of the entrances to the Congress of the Republic prevented the departure of deputies and staff of the Legislative Body, so agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) intervened, which generated moments of tension, since it came to a hand-to-hand clash.

The military veterans make several requests to the deputies and are concentrated on 8th Avenue and 9th Street, Zone 1.

Amílcar Montejo, director of Communication at Emetra, reported that more than 500 people are around the Congress of the Republic.

“Please be very cautious due to the vehicular closure of Eighth Avenue, from Sixth to Tenth Street in Zone 1,” said Montejo.

The area of Ninth Street and Seventh Avenue in Zone 1 is also blocked. In addition, a considerable number of extra-urban buses are located around the Plaza de la Constitución. It is recommended to use alternate routes near Parque Colón, Elena Avenue, Martí Street, the Olympic Bridge and the Civic Center.

“Likewise, we clarify that the people who are in the Historic Center during this Tuesday are different from the groups that have announced that they will carry out marches during Wednesday,” said Montejo.
