Kevin Castillo wins the third stage and signs his second victory in the Vuelta Bantrab 2026

Kevin Castillo shone again in the Vuelta Bantrab 2026. The 24-year-old Colombian from the Orgullo Paisa team, winner of the first stage, repeated the victory this Friday, May 1, on the third day held on the Los Altos Highway circuit in Quetzaltenango, closing the eleven laps of the 132 kilometer route with a time of 3:14:55.

The stage started at 10:00 AM on Labor Day, an hour later than usual, with the peloton touring the streets of the Quetzaltecan city on a day that took place in one of the most emblematic circuits of Guatemalan cycling.

The stage was marked by a breakaway led by Nicolás Paredes and David Gómez, who escaped from the peloton during the first laps and cheered the race on from the front. However, Paredes punctured on the eighth lap and was caught by the peloton, leaving David Gómez as the only escapee with an advantage over the main group. The Guatemalan José David Canastuj had a moment of prominence when he separated from the peloton in the last laps trying to get closer to the escapees, in an action that generated expectations among the local fans but that ultimately was not enough for him to compete for the stage victory.

Castillo remained constant throughout the eleven laps that make up the circuit and in the final sprint he showed why he has been one of the best sprinters in the competition, surpassing Juan Diego Hoyos in second position and the general leader César Guavita in third.

General classification after the third stage

  1. César David Guavita — 9:12:35
  2. Wilson Estiven Peña — +8 sec
  3. Yesid Albeiro Pira — +10 sec
  4. Sebastián Castaño — +11 sec
  5. Yeison Sebastián Reyes — +14 sec
  6. Mordoqueo Vásquez — +23 sec
  7. Kevin David Castillo — +26 sec

The Guatemalan Mardoqueo Vásquez remains in sixth position in the general classification, 23 seconds behind the leader, being the best Chapín representative in the accumulated table of the Vuelta Bantrab 2026. The leader César Guavita of the Movistar Best PC maintains the leader’s sweater with an advantage that remains minimal over his pursuers, which guarantees that the final two stages will be decisive to define the champion of the fifth edition of the competition.
