During the afternoon of this Tuesday, May 5, the Mexican media conglomerate Grupo Imagen Noticias broadcast fragments of writings that Erika Maria Herreramother-in-law and alleged murderer of the beauty queen of Baja California, Carolina Flores, had on her cell phone at the time of being captured by the Mexican authorities.
In the notes, the suspect states that she supposedly did not intend to use the gun that he carried against his daughter-in-lawso he ensures that the weapon was “she shot alone”despite the fact that the body of the 27-year-old Mexican model was found with nine shots inside his apartment, specifically in the face, neck and chest.
Despite the accusations, Erika Herrera declared, on more than one occasion, that she did not detonate the weapon intentionally against his mother unique granddaughter, eight months old, who is currently with her father and the detainee’s son, Alejandro Sánchez, after the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico stopped considering it suspicious of murder.
However, in one of those texts, Erika Herrera allegedly told him explained to his son Alejandro why he had so many disagreements with Carolina Flores: “I felt like I had lost everything because before her, we were happy together. I didn’t want to do it damage“I just wanted him to give me my place,” the American television network quoted Univision.
The texts of Erika Herrera
“I felt like it was like belting him, but by God, the gun went off by itself and there came a time when everything went haywire. dark and I didn’t know what was happening,” added Erika Guadalupe Herrera in the texts that were found at the time of her arrest in Venezuelawhere he had fled after the murder of Carolina Flores in Mexico.
“When you asked me what I had done, I didn’t know. I just wanted to punish her for being rude and a bullybut do not do more damage. I had the gun to protect me and that’s what I did,” Herrera added in a message addressed to his son Alejandro Sánchez, who was in the department when his mother murdered his wife in the kitchen.
“I took out the gun, but obviously I wasn’t planning on using it. The gun went off by itself. I go back to the moment over and over in my mind and I still don’t understand it. “It seems that the years are playing tricks on me,” quoted the Mexican radio station Formula, which reported that the body of the former beauty queen was found with nine shots.
Therefore, although multiple versions of the defense have been spread suggesting that the event was accidentalthe Mexican authorities maintain the hypothesis of a stroke premeditated, to the point that the investigation included the analysis of the possible participation of other people in facilitating the escape of the main suspect.
Conviction for feminicide in Mexico
Because the murder of Carolina Flores has been classified as feminicidethe Federal Penal Code of Mexico establishes that the sentence for this crime is among the highest in the criminal justice system, given that it constitutes the most extreme form of violence against women, often related to gender reasons.
Given the circumstances, the penalty for femicide can exceed the 40 years, as in cases sentenced in Mexico City, where the former beauty queen was murdered. For this reason, it is likely that Erika María Guadalupe Herrera will spend the rest of her life imprisonedafter the model’s murder was recorded on video and went viral.
