During the morning, a group of people blocked km 194 of route CA-11, in Jocotán, Chiquimula, a road that connects with the El Florido Integrated Border Point (PFI), between Guatemala and Honduras.
Heavy transport pilots reported that the greatest impact occurred during the first hours, when a line of at least seven kilometers formed. Subsequently, with the intervention of agents from the National Civil Police (PNC), the road was opened, allowing the waiting commercial vehicles to pass through.
They explained that, as a result of this intervention, vehicles leaving the country or entering with merchandise resumed the fiscal route to the PFI El Florido, although the blockade caused delays in the delivery of merchandise.
The General Directorate of Road Protection and Safety (Provial) reported, in an update published on Saturday afternoon, that the group of people maintained the blockade, but enabled the passage of vehicles for certain periods of time and, on occasions, allowed circulation in one of the lanes.
One of the drivers consulted indicated that he managed to pass through the place without major delays and reach his destination in Honduras within the scheduled time.
According to the pilot, the demonstration originated from the rejection of the increase in the fare of local public transportation. However, the measure generated complications for intraregional trade.
In land logistics, the movement of cargo transportation continues during the weekend, although with less intensity and volume than during the week, especially in movements to maritime terminals.
