Two people were charred to death this Monday, May 11, after a traffic accident between a truck and a motorcycle taxi on the route that leads to the village of Chajmaic, in Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Alta Verapaz, reported the Departmental Municipal Firefighters.
First responders reported that the accident occurred on that road, where, for reasons that are still being investigated, a truck and a motorcycle taxi collided. Upon impact, the three-wheeler overturned and caught fire.
First responders from the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas station went to the scene and put out the flames. After controlling the fire, they confirmed that there were two deceased people inside the motorcycle taxi, whose bodies were burned.
The victims have not been identified and it is preliminarily presumed that they were the motorcycle taxi driver and a passenger.
The authorities were notified to carry out the corresponding procedures and establish the causes of the accident.
Traffic in the sector was affected for several hours, so authorities recommended drivers drive with caution.
