Roberto Hernández appeared before the media after Xelajú MC qualified for the final of Clausura 2026 and did not hide his excitement ahead of the duel against Municipal. The Mexican coach recognized the quality of the rival but made it clear that his team arrives with the mentality of a champion.
“We are going against Municipal in the final, a great rival. 1 and 2 in the general table. Two very constant teams throughout the tournament. It will be a very difficult final, very close and very competitive, but I think we have a chance. Our team is clear and aware of what it has to do”stated the Aztec strategist.
Hernández also referred to the first leg that will be played in El Trébol and made clear his team’s plan to face the Rojos on their own field. “El Trébol is one of the good fields in Guatemalan soccer, very similar to ours. We want to be champions and to be champions we have to beat whoever is in front of us, in this case Municipal”said the coach, who also highlighted his team’s defensive solidity as one of the main weapons facing the final.
The strategist also highlighted the group’s merit in reaching this stage despite the multiple adversities they faced throughout the league, including the loss of two goalkeepers and the suspension of Chucho López.
“The team was very resilient all the time and that resulted in us being in a great final with a lot of merit and a great desire to win it. In the finals the teams don’t give anything away and you have to do a lot of work to get a goal. “We are ready and willing with the tools we have to dispute it.”said Hernández, who also closed with a message of optimism. “I hope God allows us to win it and enjoy it,” he concluded.
The eighth moon as a goal

The Superchivos eliminated Marquense in the quarterfinals with an aggregate score of 3-1 and Comunicaciones in the semifinals with an aggregate score of 4-2, in a campaign that consolidates them as one of the most solid teams of the season under the direction of Hernández.
Xelajú MC’s last title was in the Apertura 2024 when they defeated Cobán Imperial with a 3-2 aggregate under the direction of Amarini Villatoro. Now the Superchivos are looking for the Eighth Moon in their history in a final that will be played on Saturday, May 16 at El Trébol at 6:00 PM in the first leg and on Saturday, May 24 at the Mario Camposeco at 8:00 PM in the second leg, in what will be the third Clásico Chapín for the title between Municipal and Xelajú in the history of Guatemalan soccer.
