After listening to the arguments of the defense lawyers, Judge Eduardo Orozco suspended this Monday, May 11, the hearing in which he had to resolve whether those accused of the kidnapping of the dentist Julio Amílcar Martínez Murillo will face trial, judicial sources reported.

The procedure was rescheduled for Friday, May 15 at 12 noon.

Among those prosecuted is Julio Leonardo Alejandro Girón Castañeda, identified by the authorities as the alleged leader of the group. Also linked to the case are Carlos Antonio González y González, Juan Ubaldo Tzun Castillo, Juan Oswaldo Tzun Hernández and Paola Isabel Díaz Ramírez.

Anelsy Adeli Quiñónez Corado remains a fugitive, according to the investigation.

Martínez Murillo was kidnapped on May 28, 2025 and since then his whereabouts have been unknown.

According to Dennis Cisneros, head of the Anti-Kidnapping Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry (MP), the dentist left his home that day, on the route to El Salvador, heading to his clinic in El Jocotillo, Villa Canales. During the trip he made a stop at a shopping center, while at least three vehicles followed him, according to the investigation.

The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that, after kilometer 38, in a desolate area, the vehicle’s path would have been blocked. At that moment, Martínez Murillo was speaking on the phone with his secretary, but the communication was abruptly interrupted.

A day later, the alleged kidnappers contacted the dentist’s wife to demand “5 quintals of corn,” a phrase that, according to telephone interceptions, referred to Q5 million.

According to the investigation, Carlos Antonio González y González would have acted as an intermediary.

On June 5, 2025, the kidnappers agreed to receive Q763 thousand in cash at a gas station located at the end of Hincapié Avenue, zone 13.

The MP’s investigations indicate that Girón Castañeda had maintained a relationship of trust with Martínez Murillo for more than 12 years, which would have allowed us to know his routines and movements.
