During the morning of this Thursday, May 14, the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) put into circulation twelve commemorative coins of the 2026 World Cuporganized by the United States, Mexico and Canada; so nine of the pieces will be dedicated to Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterreythe three Mexican venues of the event.

The other three pieces, as stated by the institution through a digital statement, “will exalt the natural, historical and cultural heritage” from Mexico. Therefore, the complete collection will be made up of “four bimetallic coins of current mintage and eight minted in fine metals” (four of gold and four of silver).

In this situation, the pieces will be minted by the Mint of Mexico and are divided into bimetallic coins of current mintage, with a dodecagonal shape and face value of 20 pesos (Q9)and fine metal coins, circular in shape, with a face value of 25 pesos (Q12) for those of gold and of 10 pesos (Q5) for coins silver.

Faced with this scenario, bimetallic coins will have the National Shieldwith the legend “UNITED MEXICAN STATES”, forming the upper semicircle, and all three will have the phrase “LA WORLD CUP” inscribed. FIFA 2026”, in reference to the event of the International Federation of Association Football.

So far, Banxico has not published a definitive list of retail prices for the collectibles. However, media specialized They estimate that the silver coins could sell for more than 900 pesos (Q400), and gold prices reach considerably higher prices, depending on the international market.

For their part, the commemorative coins bimetallic of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will begin to reach the banking system in the days following its release and, according to Banxico, will be available in bank branches from next Monday May 18 to be obtained through daily operations.

According to what was stated by the American television network Telemundo, gold and silver pieces will only be available through authorized distributors; and among the points confirmed so far are the Mexican Mint and the Interactive Museum of Economy (MIDE)in Mexico City.

However, Banxico indicated that the currencies of fine metals will begin to be sold during the last week of May. Despite this, some reports indicate that the dates and distribution mechanisms could still be adjusted, due to the high expectation of collectors and fans not only from Mexico, but from Latin America.
