How to obtain the new Q100 commemorative bill

The new Q100 commemorative ticketissued by the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) for the 80 years of the founding of the central bank, will begin to circulate next May 25. Given the interest of collectors and citizens, the authorities explained what the options will be to obtain one of these specimens.

Álvaro González Ricci indicated that the distribution of the new note will be carried out under the same mechanism used with previous issues, so it will be the banks of the system who will receive the copies, according to the quantities requested.

1. Banking agencies

The first way to obtain the new ticket will be through the system banks. The Bank of Guatemala will deliver the copies according to the requirements of each banking entity and they will later be distributed in different agencies in the country.

Each bank will decide in which branches they will be available and the amount to send to each point.

2. Exchange banknotes at the Banco de Guatemala

As a second option, the Banguat will enable from the May 25 a total of 10 boxes in the institution’s library so that people can exchange tickets.

Guatemalans will be able to hand in a current Q100 bill and receive one of the commemorative edition in exchange. The authorities clarified that there will be no exchange limit for those who wish to obtain the new copies.

3. Receive it in everyday transactions

The third alternative will be through the normal circulation of money in the country. As González Ricci explained, the Q100 represents close to 90% of monetary circulationso eventually the new copies will reach the hands of citizens during purchases, payments or any commercial transaction.

The authorities also clarified that the new commemorative note there will be no additional cost for the population. Unlike some commemorative collector coins, this note is legal tenderso its value will continue to be Q100 and it will not be necessary to pay more money to obtain it.

The new design does not replace the current ticket

The authorities clarified that both the traditional design and the new Q100 commemorative ticket They will have the same legal value and may be used without restrictions.

15 million banknotes will be printed

The Bank of Guatemala reported that for this commemorative issue they will print 15 million Q100 billsequivalent to Q1 thousand 500 million in circulation.
