Héctor Saíd Martínez Sorto was designated for the Group B match between Qatar and Switzerland, played at the San Francisco Bay Stadium (Levi’s Stadium) on June 13 at 1:00 p.m.

During the match, the referee awarded a penalty in favor of Switzerland after a VAR review. The action occurred in the 17th minute due to a foul attributed to the Qatari goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada on a Swiss attacker. Breel Embolo made the charge and scored the goal that opened the scoring.

The refereeing team also had the participation of Hondurans Walter López and Christian Ramírez as assistants, while Jamaican Oshane Nation served as fourth official.

Martínez, 34 years old and originally from Tocoa, Colón, debuted in the Honduran National League in 2013 and obtained FIFA status in 2017. Throughout his career he has directed matches in the Gold Cup, the Concacaf Nations League and other international competitions.

At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar he was part of the refereeing team as an assistant for nine games, while in the 2026 edition he made his debut as a central referee. His appointment for a group stage match represents a relevant fact for Honduran and Central American refereeing.

Martínez’s continuity in the tournament will depend on the evaluations carried out by the FIFA Referees Commission during the competition.
