President Bernardo Arévalo, said this June 2 that he has initiated the disciplinary process against teachers who do not teach, derived from the fact that since last May 26 several teachers have camped in the Plaza de la Constitución as a way of demanding a salary increase of 15%.
The president said that since June 1 a salary increase of 5% was applied to teachers, and that those teachers who do not give classes will be lifted in each of the corresponding schools.
“If there are teachers who are not teaching their schools, what is happening is that the corresponding minutes are being raised and the rigor process will be run,” said Arévalo.
The president said that he does not know the exact number of minutes that have been raised, and that such information will be requested directly from the Minister of Education.
“The teacher cannot be absent from the classroom, because each teacher who is not in the classroom, there are dozens of children who are stopping education, and that is where we are acting within the framework of the law,” said the president.
