For Wednesday, April 22, the deputies who make up the Finance Commission of the Congress of the Republic are scheduled to hear the ruling on the loan request with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The amount is US$100 million, which is equivalent to about Q765 million, and the commission’s opinion is pending before moving on to the discussion in the Plenary of Congress, which, since it is a sovereign debt, must know it.
The official document indicates that the financing with the IDB is intended for the execution of the “Support Program for the Expansion of Secondary Education”which will be executed by the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) and is aimed at expanding coverage, improving educational infrastructure, strengthening the use of educational and technological resources, as well as improving the skills of teachers in service at the secondary education level.
It is noted that the Program to Support the Expansion of Secondary Education will be financed through an investment loan granted by the IDB, under the flexible financing modality, aimed at strengthening the coverage and quality of secondary education in Guatemala, including the basic cycle and the diversified cycle.
The program will be executed at the national level, with emphasis on rural and marginal-urban areas that have low levels of educational coverage, high school dropout rates, and deficient conditions of educational infrastructure.
The interventions will be aimed at public secondary education centers, prioritizing those that serve the indigenous population, students in vulnerable situations and communities with significant gaps in access and permanence in the educational system.
