A new protection seeks to prevent the presidential duo from participating in the election of attorney general of the Public Ministry (MP), due to an apparent conflict of interest, and proposes that prosecutor Dimas Jiménez direct the investigative entity.
Until now, no protection against the process has been scheduled by the president of the Constitutional Court (CC), Anabella Morfín.
The amparo was presented by lawyer Fernando Linares Beltranena, who exposes as an apparent conflict of interest of the duo the lawsuits that the MP has promoted against President Bernardo Arévalo and Vice President Karin Herrera.
The action seeks to temporarily – until the preliminary proceedings are resolved and the pair can participate in the election – to remain at the head of the MP the prosecutor designated to replace the attorney general, who would be the chief prosecutor Dimas Jiménez.
This protection entered the CC on Sunday, May 3, at 7:51 p.m.
Until May 1, the CC accumulated at least 12 amparos that have not yet been resolved and that have been filed as a result of the appointment of the new attorney general.
As part of the process, President Bernardo Arévalo has already interviewed the six candidates who make up the new list.
This Monday, May 4 The deadline for the Nomination Commission to receive challenges against the payroll of six candidates expires.
