The extreme Luis Díaz, from Bayern Munich, and midfielder James Rodríguez, from Minnesota United, head the pre-list of 55 players for the Colombian national team for the 2026 World Cupfrom which in the coming weeks the 26 final squads will emerge.
Coach Néstor Lorenzo announced the roster this Thursday at a press conference, which also includes regular starters such as goalkeeper Camilo Vargas; the defenders Daniel Muñoz, Davinson Sánchez, Jhon Lucumí and Johan Mojica; midfielders Jhon Arias and Jefferson Lerma; and the forward Luis Suárez.
Among the main novelties, the creative Juan Manuel Rengifo, 21 years old and a figure of Atlético Nacional; striker Neiser Villarreal, from Cruzeiro, top scorer in the U-20 World Cup from last year; and midfielder Johan Rojas, who has had outstanding performances with Vasco da Gama.
Colombia was located in the Group K with Portugal, Uzbekistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a team that qualified through the playoff held in March.
The debut of the coffee team will be on June 17 against Uzbekistan at the Azteca stadium in Mexico City. Six days later they will face the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Guadalajaraand will close the group stage on June 27 against Portugal in Miami, in one of the most attractive duels of the first round.
