A shooting left a man and a woman dead this Thursday, May 14, in Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, the Volunteer Firefighters reported.

The armed attack occurred half a block from the lifeguard station, in a sector that connects with the Santa Lucía Norte road and 1st. west street.

According to preliminary information, the victims were traveling in a vehicle with license plates P373DNH when they were attacked by gunfire. The car was left with several punctures in the rear.

Local media reports indicate that, apparently, the victims were trying to flee from the attackers when the attack occurred. According to preliminary reports, the attackers were traveling on a motorcycle.

Volunteer Firefighters responded to the scene and confirmed the death of both people, who have not been identified. Preliminarily, it was indicated that the victims would be between 25 and 30 years old.

The armed incident occurred in an area with high vehicular and pedestrian traffic, because businesses operate in the sector and the La Pólvora market is located, one of the busiest points in Antigua Guatemala.

The authorities were carrying out investigations at the scene, so traffic complications and road closures were reported while the Public Ministry collected evidence.
