These documents technically support the environmental impact of the materials used such as Grade 60 and 80 rebar, manufactured with 100% recycled material, verified by the Guatemala Green Building Council (GGBC) and under strict energy efficiency parameters.

Living Steel is an expression that positions steel as a green material for construction, because it presents it as a symbol of leadership, which reflects its commitment to a sustainable future.

“From now on, the Acero Vivo program is part of the agenda of generating value for our clients. For this edition we decided to invite Greg Lindsay, who is a specialist in urban planning and the future in mobility and construction, who encourages incorporating a futuristic vision into projects. Acero Vivo was born as a concept inspired by infinite life and the benefits of steel as a material for sustainable construction,” commented Isabel Moya, Marketing Director of Grupo AG.

Among the companies that received a carbon footprint declaration and/or Circular Industry registration are: Grupo Precon, Grupo Macro, Grupo Rosul, Grupo Cayalá, Sur Desarrollos, Corporación AICSA, Qualicons, Grupo STI, Structures Verticales, Sermasa, LC Constructora, Origo, Rodio Swissboring Guatemala, Grupo Apolo, Nabla, Grupo Muratori, Grupo Gardens, Ingenio La Unión, Olmeca/Grupo Hame, Samboro, Rosmo, Carrocerías Xela, Nexus Proyectos, Avanza Constructores, Torelo, Constructora E4, DYC, Atlas Fabri-Metal, Grupo ITM and others.

These companies stand out for the construction of projects with the greatest impact in Guatemala and, through the carbon footprint declaration, they can add points for LEED, EDGE and CASA Guatemala certifications, in addition to accessing credits with better financial rates.

“A few years ago, talking about the circular economy, recycled steel or carbon footprint within construction seemed like a distant conversation. However, what we have experienced today with these recognitions shows how, through promoting the most important projects in Central America, you are incorporating standards to build a new way of understanding the future of our industry and our country,” highlighted Carlos Fuentes, Commercial Director of Grupo AG.

Building a green future

Recently, Grupo AG presented its fifth Sustainability Report, highlighting its environmental efforts such as the processing of more than 554 thousand tons of scrap, leading a circular economy model, achieving that more than 57% of its inputs come from recycled materials. In addition, the carbon footprint emissions intensity registered 1.22 per ton of steel, below the steel industry average.

For Grupo AG, sustainability is no longer a parallel axis and becomes part of a multidimensional business strategy. Today it operates under four main axes that reflect this evolution: a healthy organization based on integrity as an architecture, the care of the planet through responsible management within the limits, the development of our collaborators as the talent that we are, and the generation of value for clients, suppliers and communities through a development that transcends.

Leaders in Central America

With operations in five countries in Central and South America and with more than 2,800 employees, Grupo AG announced last April its incorporation into the World Steel Association, representing Central America as a producer of liquid steel in the global industry assembly, where it has the participation of its General Director, Rodrigo Gabriel.

This action represents for Grupo AG the strengthening of its capabilities and the training opportunity for its collaborators, through access to good practices in the steel industry worldwide. Likewise, this knowledge will be extended to its clients, to bring them closer to academia and global class standards in a key industry for economic and social development.
