With more than 20 years of experience as a chemical engineer, administrator and manager of several companies, José Herrera, 70 years old, is retired and continues to advise businesses.

The engineer was impacted by the legacy of his father, Manuel —now deceased—, whom he describes as the most cultured man he has ever known, for encouraging him to read, as well as reading Prensa Libre daily. “The medium informs me and gives me criteria on political and financial aspects to invest or make decisions in my companies,” says the interviewee.

His wife, of Costa Rican origin, and his son are also avid readers of the printed edition.

Promoting a habit

Herrera has been a subscriber for more than 17 years and likes opinion content, editorials, topics of economics, politics, health and four or five star sudokus, due to their difficulty. “Prensa Libre is that independent media that, monitoring the good or bad of the officials on duty, contributes to society’s decision-making,” says Herrera.

It also highlights that it is important to promote the habit of reading in all generations, and that it must be complemented at home and in educational institutions, as it develops criteria and decisions for the future.
