In memory of that July 16, 1946, when the National Ballet of Guatemala “Christa Mertins” had its first presentation, the institution has prepared two special galas to celebrate its 78th anniversary, in the company of musical institutions that, Between musicians, singers and dancers, there will be more than 200 artists on stage.
In the first part of the program, the Western Regional Symphony Orchestra and the National Singing School “Gloria Marina” They will offer an operatic gala. In the second part, the National Ballet of Guatemala, the Spring Quartet and the Xocomil Quintet.
“We close with the Danzón No. 4by Márquez, accompanied by the Western Regional Symphony Orchestra and our corps de ballet from the National Ballet of Guatemala, with choreography by maestro Roberto Castañeda, one of the founders of the institution, who was in the first presentation on July 16, 1946”explains Sonia Marcos, director of the National Ballet.
The presentations will take place on Wednesday, July 15 and Thursday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the “Efraín Recinos” Great Room of the “Miguel Ángel Asturias” Cultural Center. Tickets will be free. Those interested should pay attention to the social networks of the National Ballet of Guatemala, where the dates and places to pick them up will be announced.
According to Marcos, these 78 years of experience remember the people who, throughout this time, have worked for the institution: teachers, choreographers, dancers and, currently, young dancers who continue to give it life.
“The cordial invitation is for you to attend this anniversary, which is multifaceted and takes us to our roots: since ballet was born, how it has evolved during this time and who celebrates with us now”, adds the director.
In addition to celebrating classical dance in Guatemala and its almost eight decades of history, the presentations also seek to bring this art closer to young people so that they can join the National Ballet of Guatemala.
