The fight over drug dealing has spread to Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, according to the first investigations of the National Civil Police (PNC), after an armed attack registered on Thursday, May 14, in which a couple died.
The shooting occurred after 1 p.m., on the 1st. Calle Poniente and Calzada Santa Lucía, in Antigua Guatemala, an area with high vehicular and pedestrian traffic, because businesses operate in the sector and the La Pólvora market is located, one of the busiest points of the colonial city.
One of the victims was identified as Miguel Ángel Sánchez Estrada, who, according to the PNC, had a record of attempted homicide and negligent injuries.
The authorities indicated that both were driving in a vehicle with plates P-373DNH.
According to the preliminary report, two hitmen were traveling on a blue motorcycle and, despite the operations carried out after the shooting, the Police did not capture the suspects.
At the scene, prosecutors from the Public Ministry (MP) located 14 ballistic evidence, two cell phones, Q7,989 in cash, 10 wrappers with crack and pipes to consume drugs.
According to the PNC’s preliminary investigation, the victims “were problematic people” and “possibly were involved in drug dealing in different sectors of the municipality.”
The Police indicated that they are following two lines of investigation: one related to a vendetta linked to members of a drug trafficking structure and another due to a territorial dispute between criminal structures.
