Mario Acevedo warns Xelajú for the return against Municipal

Mario Acevedo was satisfied after Municipal’s 4-1 win over Xelajú MC in the first leg final of Clausura 2026 and made it clear that his team will not change its mentality for the second leg in Quetzaltenango. The red coach highlighted the moment the team is going through and assured that the scarlet team also knows how to compete away from home.

“We know that we are also a very good visitor,” said the coach when remembering the positive streak that Municipal has accumulated away from home. Acevedo highlighted that the team arrives strengthened at the close of the tournament and with the necessary confidence to face the duel at the Mario Camposeco.

The red strategist also recognized the difficulty of facing Xelajú at home and valued the work done by the Quetzaltecan team throughout the season. “We are going to face a good rival, it is a well-worked team,” expressed Acevedo after the match played in El Trébol.

Despite the large advantage achieved in the first leg, the scarlet coach made it clear that Municipal will not only go out to defend the score in Quetzaltenango. “Our mentality is to get a positive result on the visit and we will try to play an intelligent game, we will not go and defend ourselves”noted the Reds coach.

Municipal will look for 33 in Camposeco

With the 4-1 score at home, Municipal will arrive at the Mario Camposeco as a big favorite to win the Clausura 2026 title. However, Acevedo insisted that the team must maintain concentration to avoid any reaction from Xelajú at home.

The coach also highlighted the football moment that the club is going through in the final stretch of the championship. Municipal has accumulated a positive streak both at home and away and will seek to take advantage of that momentum to get closer to a new title in the National League.

Xelajú, for its part, will need a historic comeback to stay alive in the series. The Superchivos should win by a wide margin at the Mario Camposeco, while Municipal will try to manage the advantage and confirm the championship away from home.
