Gabriel Garcia Luna issued his first official message after take office at midnight this Sunday at the Gerona neighborhood headquarters.
During his inaugural speech at the Gerona neighborhood headquarters, the official acknowledged that he receives an institution with “deep wounds” and emphasized that his administration will not bow to pressure or convenience.
“It does not begin another administration, it begins an opportunity to restore dignity to Guatemalan criminal justice”sentenced before the expectation of the civil sectors that during the night held a vigil for the transition of the mandate.
The Attorney General was categorical in pointing out that any selective persecution must cease, ensuring that under his command objectivity will be the institution’s only route.
“The law is equal or it is not law”García Luna stated when announcing that operational priorities will focus on the frontal fight against corruption, drug trafficking and extortion.
The new head of the investigative entity concluded that the results of his management will not be announced, but will be built “case by case” to return the center of justice to the victims.
The official highlighted that his administration represents an opportunity to recover the dignity of criminal justice and the trust of citizens in the investigative entity.
The replacement, which marks the end of Consuelo Porras’ administration, took place with the support of civilian sectors that remained on the outskirts of the institution during the transfer of command.
During his intervention, the Attorney General emphasized that the Public Ministry will act under principles of objectivity and will not again be used as a weapon at the service of particular groups.
García Luna explained that operational priorities will focus on the frontal fight against corruption, drug trafficking and extortion, ensuring that the law will be applied without distinctions. Likewise, he confirmed that institutional strengthening will be based on professional ethics and the protection of victims as the central axis of criminal prosecution.
