The Patio de la vida, in the National Palace of Culture of Guatemala, was the venue that Álvaro Aguilar, vocalist of Alux Nahual, chose to officially present his first book.

With the support of Editorial Cultura, of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Guatemala, the national musician and composer published Manual of a rocker, a book that the leader of Alux Nahual describes as a guide from zero to one hundred for professional musicians.

The book was presented this Wednesday, June 10, and Aguilar was accompanied by Hanna Orellana, from Editorial Cultura; Lucía Armas Gálvez, from the Diffusion of the Arts; and the commentator Juan Pablo Mijangos.

“For Editorial Cultura, this publication is important, because we exist to support new generations. We donate 75% of all new print runs to schools and libraries, so material like this helps young people and children have the necessary tools to dedicate themselves to the arts. In addition, it is an important testimony that, in this country, people can dedicate themselves to art and music, and it is something that we can all learn from,” said Orellana.

Álvaro Aguilar’s message

“I am sure that many will ask the question: Why a book in these times? And why does Álvaro write a book? And there are several reasons,” said the national musician and composer during his speech.

“Since I was little I really liked reading. My grandmother and my father encouraged that in me. I read magazines comics from that time and green lantern It was my favorite. And my grandmother would arrive from time to time with a book in her hand for me to read. My graduation thesis at school was on literature and reading became a habit,” Aguilar added.

The vocalist and leader of Alux Nahual insisted that reading is important and said that he continues to acquire copies to enrich his knowledge.

“I have continued buying books and I will continue buying them all my life, but certain readings helped me to be better in my music profession. They were the ones I bought about the music business. I bought several. And That’s where the idea of “Manual of a rocker”, he stated.

According to Aguilar, he wants his book to become a reference text for those seeking to enter the music industry.

“The central idea is that it is more than a work of art, a document that serves as a guide for many people to be able to advance more easily along the path of music,” he stated.

“But there is also another reason. In every country there are discos. In every country there are beautiful buildings and lakes, but at the end of the day, what differentiates one country from another is its culture. The food, the costumes, the dances, the music and the literature. These united elements reflect the personality of a social group and I think of We must feed ourselves from our own art manifestations. Listen to our poets and our musicians and thus reinforce our identity,” added the Guatemalan musician and singer-songwriter.
